US ANGLERS ENJOY MAYFLY ON SHEELIN..

Recently we have been up on Sheelin a lot with the Mayfly fishing being the best in years. Although now it has slowed down I went there with a group of American anglers and non anglers who were in the area on business.

Tony and Mark were keen to try some dry fly fishing. Mark had plenty of experience on rivers back in the U.S but had never fished on lakes before. For Tony it was his first time fly fishing.

We only got to the lake about 3 o clock and when we got out on the water there was enough fly on the water to keep a few fish up on the feed. With very little greens now hatching it was mostly spents so both of the boys fished with dries.

Tony was first off the mark with a nicely marked fish.  As the afternoon/evening progressed he rose quite a few more but none stayed on. Mark however was also getting in on the action and over the next few hours he boated 4 lovely Trout all on the spent. He was also very unlucky losing 2 good fish after good battles with them.

The fish Mark caught were from 2 lb up to nearly 3 lb, and were all returned again.

Afterwards we all had a great dinner in Crover House Hotel and it finished the day off lovely.

With the fly now gone we are looking forward to some sedge fishing on the lake, it should not be long now. To book a day with Richie on any Irish waters contact him at richie@guidefishingireland.com.
