Earlier this week I was down in Kerry filming a couple of days bass fishing with Anglers View Media and Michael Hennessy and Myles Kelly from IFI. On Tuesday before we went after the bass, Myles came and joined me for a couple of hours days fishing out on Currane. He had never fished the lough before. It was calm starting out and we barely drifted at all.
In just a short space of time we saw 2 salmon moving off the point of one of the islands, and caught a few small brown trout and small sea trout over the next hour or so. We decided to take a drift out into the open water when the breeze picked up and I rose a very good fish on a green peter, but it came short. With a few minutes to go before we had to head in for our bass fishing, we decided on one more drift.
Myles put up a small stoats tail, and within minutes he had a take. At first we did not think it was big, but then the fish just bored down under the boat. Myles piled on the pressure getting the fish on the reel. For 3 or 4 minutes we did not even see the fish, and then thankfully it tired and we got it into the net first time. The fish was about 4 pounds and is Myles best sea trout to date on the fly and his first from Currane. Myles carefully returned the fish unharmed.

Thanks to Neil O Shea’s for the boat-hire. Neil himself had a 7 pound salmon an hour later covered in sea lice and a sea trout of 2 pounds.
