Cork Harbour Bass

Last week we got to focus on bass in a number of various locations. First up Anglersview Media were filming with Inland Fisheries Ireland on Tuesday in Cobh.

The weather was perfect and at 8.30 am 2 boats left for different marks inside Cork harbour as the tide was going out. IFI’s Mike Hennessy took us to one of his many spots, and we had action from the start.[slideshow gallery_id=”7″]

The bass were feeding just off the kelp on sandeels and Johnny Reddin was first in with a lovely bass of nearly 5 lb, taken on an 18cm Rapala.

Within minutes he had another of similar size on the same lure. We managed to get both on film so things were looking good.

We then headed out of the harbour and down the coast along with the 2nd boat with Charlie Stuart, Myles Kelly of IFI and local guide Kevin Murphy. Over the next 4-5 hrs both boats had some great action to a variety of lures.

Exciting fishing especially as the water was so clear and added benefit was we got some footage of the bass using the underwater camera.

For anyone interested in visiting the area Kevin Murphy runs a super hotel called Bellavista. Here he is only minutes from the quay, and has 6 self drive boats you can hire to fish from. His contact number is 021 4812450. rj
